Vermont is the only New England state with no coastline along
the Atlantic Ocean. The state is famous for its scenery and dairy products.
The center of population of Vermont is located in Washington County, in
the city of Warren. Vermont is the only one of the 48 contiguous states
without a Target store. It is also the only state within the entire United
States whose state capital does not have a McDonald's restaurant. Vermont
was the last state to get a Wal-Mart.
Tourism is the state's largest industry. It's world famous ski resorts include
Stowe, Killington Ski Resort, Mad River Glen, Sugarbush, Stratton, Jay Peak,
Okemo, and Bromley. In the summer, resort towns like Stowe, Manchester, and
Woodstock draw visitors looking for a mountain vacation.
Vermont has long been a popular gay and lesbian destination. The liberal nature
of this state far exceeds all others. July 1, 2000 Vermont became the first state
in the Union to legally recognize gay Civil Unions for same sex couples.
